Plan a viewing trip
A viewing trip is the best way to compare homes and areas before you decide anything. We plan it around your dates, so your time here goes on the homes that fit and the places you might want to live.
- Before you fly
- Your days here
- Making a decision
- After you go home
Before you fly
Send us your dates and what you are looking for, and we will agree a shortlist with you before you land. Bring your passport, which you need for an NIE, and proof of funds such as recent bank statements or a mortgage pre-approval. If you want to apply for the NIE in person while you are here, book the appointment well ahead, since they can be hard to get.
Your days here
Three or four homes a day is about right, because after that they start to blur. Go back to the ones you like at a different time of day, on a weekday morning and again in the evening, so you know what the street and the traffic are really like. Leave time to try the walk to the shops and the drive to the nearest health centre.
Making a decision
Take your time, because nothing has to be decided on the day, and be wary of anyone who tells you otherwise. If you do reserve while you are here, you sign a reservation contract, pay the deposit to your lawyer's client account or a bonded third party, and your lawyer starts the checks. If there is no time to get your NIE during the trip, your lawyer can obtain it later under a power of attorney.
After you go home
You do not have to come back to complete. Your lawyer can act for you under a power of attorney, signing the contracts and the deed at the notary on your behalf. The steps that follow are the legal checks, the private contract, any mortgage and then completion, and we stay in touch with you throughout.
